Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to comment on a range of political issues, including federal deficit projections, voting rights legislation, and former President Donald Trump’s policy record.

On August 4, 2025, Beyer wrote: “The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projects that Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill will add more than $4 TRILLION to the deficit over the next 10 years. Republicans are willing to explode the deficit to cut taxes for the ultra wealthy, leaving everyone else pay the bill.”

Two days later, on August 6, he marked an anniversary related to civil rights: “60 years ago, the Voting Rights Act outlawed poll taxes, literacy tests, and other barriers to voting. Unfortunately, we’re still fighting against Republican tactics to suppress voters. We must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to protect every vote and our democracy.”

Later that day on August 6, Beyer commented on former President Trump’s administration: “Trump promised to lower costs, stop corruption, and end wars but none of it happened. Instead he is doing the opposite. Americans are struggling with everyday costs while he uses the Presidency to enrich himself.”

Don Beyer has served as a member of Congress since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran and represents constituents from Virginia’s 8th District. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and resides in Alexandria. Beyer holds a bachelor’s degree from Williams College.
