Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on July 30, 2025, to voice concerns about recent Republican legislative actions and federal agency priorities.

In a post from July 30, Beyer stated, “60 years ago, Medicare and Medicaid were created to provide Americans with access to affordable, dignified health care. But the Big Ugly Bill Republicans voted to pass into law takes away this health care for 15 million Americans. Democrats are fighting back.”

Later that day, Beyer commented on Social Security policy: “Secretary Bessent confirms what we have been saying all along: The Trump Administration wants to eliminate and privatize Social Security.”

In another post on July 30, Beyer addressed the use of postal inspectors by federal agencies: “Trump is co-opting postal inspectors from their work to address package theft, illicit drug distribution, and child pornography to instead help DHS target immigrants. We’re demanding that @USPS refocus on its actual mission. More here: https://t.co/2OSz15Divi”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He holds a BA from Williams College.
