Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on his social media accounts addressing health care policy, energy prices, and religious observances.

On October 1, 2025, Beyer criticized Republican lawmakers for their handling of health care policy. In a post he stated, “Republicans are simply lying about this, again. They are lying for a reason: 15 million people are going to lose health care because of the Republican tax law signed by Trump. Many millions more are going to see huge health care cost increases very soon thanks to Republicans.”

Later that day, Beyer addressed members of the Jewish community during Yom Kippur with a message: “G’mar Chatima Tova! As the Jewish community observes Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, I wish you all a meaningful day of reflection – and an easy fast to those who are fasting.” (October 1, 2025).

On October 2, Beyer commented on electricity prices and ongoing negotiations related to a government shutdown: “One third of all people who voted for Trump last year live in these states. Trump and Russ Vought are raising their electricity prices on purpose. Democrats are here and ready to negotiate a deal that ends the shutdown and prevents Republican health care cost increases.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and resides in Alexandria. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Williams College.
