Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, used his social media account to comment on recent congressional actions related to funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In a series of posts made between March 27 and March 28, 2026, Beyer criticized both former President Donald Trump and House Republican leaders over their handling of federal employee pay and DHS funding.

On March 27, Beyer wrote: “After 43 days of using our public servants as pawns, Trump finally agreed to pay our TSA agents – something he could’ve done all along. Overnight, Senate Republicans finally joined Democrats to pass a clean bill to fund the law-abiding parts of DHS, including TSA, FEMA, and the”.

Later that day, Beyer addressed Speaker Johnson’s approach to immigration enforcement agencies. On March 27 he posted: “If Speaker Johnson wants to fund the entirety of ICE and CBP, we need firm commitments that will rein in their lawlessness. – No masks. – No unidentified agents. – No entries without judicial warrants. – Full cooperation with independent investigations, including the”.

Continuing his criticism into the following day, Beyer stated on March 28: “House Republicans could have brought the Senate-passed bill to the floor to fund the law-abiding parts of DHS. The shutdown could have ended today and our TSA agents, Coast Guard members, and FEMA employees would get paid. Instead, House Republican leaders chose to put forward”.

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. Beyer is also an alumnus of Williams College where he earned a BA in 1972.
