Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of tweets on February 2 and 3, 2026, addressing concerns about congressional transparency, funding allocations, and allegations of corruption involving Republican leadership.

On February 2, Beyer wrote: “@EleanorNorton And just so everyone is clear, plenty of ‘funding is available.’ Republicans gave Noem and the Department of Homeland Security a $75 billion slush fund in the One Big Brutal Bill. If they truly want to be more transparent, money will not be the problem.”

The following day, he continued his critique by stating: “A lot of people want accountability and consequences for this. I’m with you.

Republicans have majorities in both chambers of Congress, and are turning a blind eye to this blatant corruption.

Congress must investigate this, but Republicans want to sweep it under the rug.” This tweet underscores his call for an investigation into what he describes as “blatant corruption,” emphasizing his position that Republican leaders are avoiding scrutiny.

Later on February 3, Beyer posted another message referencing personnel within the Justice Department: “The second-in-command at Trump’s coopted Justice Department, Pam Bondi’s deputy: https://t.co/ft7hSWSSYw”

Beyer’s statements come amid ongoing debates in Congress regarding government spending and oversight. The reference to a “$75 billion slush fund” alludes to recent appropriations made through comprehensive legislation dubbed the “One Big Brutal Bill.” These comments reflect wider partisan disputes over fiscal transparency and accountability measures.

Don Beyer has served as representative for Virginia’s 8th District since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, Beyer graduated from Williams College in 1972 with a BA degree.
