Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has recently posted several comments on social media addressing issues ranging from energy prices and AI-driven power demand to health care policy and international tourism.

On December 9, 2025, Beyer commented on the impact of artificial intelligence on electricity costs and criticized Republican energy policies. He wrote, “Rapid data center construction to meet power demands from AI platforms is driving electricity prices up sharply, while Republicans’ big bill slows the construction of energy projects. Our bill would generate policy changes to lower costs for the American people.”

The following day, December 10, Beyer expressed concern over new measures affecting tourists from allied nations under former President Donald Trump’s administration. He stated, “There are communist countries and dictatorships that don’t treat Americans this way. Trump is doing it to citizens of our close allies. A lot of tourists understandably won’t trust Trump’s thought police with that information. They’ll stay away, and our economy will suffer.”

Later on December 10, Beyer criticized Republicans’ approach to health care reform: “Republicans have no idea what to do. They’ve been promising a health care plan for 16 years and never offered one. They could pass everything on this list and it wouldn’t stop catastrophic health care cost increases for the American people.”

Beyer has served in Congress since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015 and represents constituents in northern Virginia. Born in Trieste in 1950, he currently resides in Alexandria and holds a degree from Williams College.
