Rep. Don Beyer, U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has used his social media platform to criticize recent Republican policies related to tariffs, cryptocurrency, and the rising costs of essential goods and services.

On November 12, 2025, Beyer stated, “Bessent admits Trump’s tariffs raised prices on coffee and bananas. The same logic applies to everything else Trump put tariffs on. I called for removal of tariffs on bananas and coffee, things we can’t produce domestically, but all of Trump’s tariffs raise Americans’ prices.”

Later that day, he posted another critique: “Trump’s family is lining their pockets with crypto profits and his administration is full of billionaires and hedge fund managers.”

In a subsequent tweet from November 12, 2025 at 17:05 UTC, Beyer drew attention to rising living costs under Republican leadership: “We’ve been talking about the Republican health care affordability crisis for two months, and grocery prices are also rising rapidly- but as a recent @JECDems report highlights, Republican policies are also continuing to drive up electricity prices.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. His educational background includes a BA from Williams College earned in 1972.
