Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, has voiced concerns over recent legislative developments via social media. On June 5, 2025, Beyer shared his views on a significant financial bill and its implications for national debt and healthcare programs.

In a post made at 15:30 UTC, Beyer criticized the Republican party’s proposed legislation, referring to it as the “Big Ugly Bill.” He stated that according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, this bill would increase the national debt by “3 Trillion Dollars.”

Later that day at 17:20 UTC, Beyer expressed further disapproval of Republican fiscal strategies. He noted that after proposing substantial cuts to Medicaid, Republicans are now considering funding tax breaks for billionaires by reducing Medicare spending. Beyer described this as “the biggest cut to Medicaid in its history.”

At 17:25 UTC, Beyer referenced a previous discussion with Trump’s top trade adviser and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. He indicated that he had already addressed similar concerns last month during their meeting. This interaction was highlighted in his tweet where he mentioned “The exact point I made to Trump’s top trade adviser.”

Don Beyer has been serving in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran. Born in Trieste in 1950 and a graduate of Williams College, he resides in Alexandria.
