Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of tweets on December 16, 2025, criticizing the impact of tariffs imposed during former President Donald Trump’s administration and recent Republican legislative actions.

In one tweet at 22:53 UTC, Beyer stated, “Even Trump’s Chief of Staff publicly admits that Trump’s tariffs have been more painful than she expected.”

Shortly after, at 22:56 UTC, he continued his critique by writing, “Tariffs were supposed to bring back manufacturing jobs, but manufacturing job numbers are plummeting.”

At 22:57 UTC, Beyer addressed broader economic concerns in another post: “Americans are paying more for groceries, electricity, housing, and health care, as Republicans pass legislation that drives costs higher.

Republicans are surrendering their power to stop Trump’s tariffs – the one thing they could do that would most help our flagging economy.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, Beyer holds a BA from Williams College. His recent posts reflect ongoing debates over the economic effects of tariffs and partisan approaches to cost-of-living issues in the United States.
