Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, has voiced his concerns regarding constitutional violations under President Trump’s administration through a series of tweets. These tweets address issues related to due process and freedom of speech, specifically focusing on an individual named Mr. Suri.

On March 20, 2025, Rep. Beyer stated that “The ‘justification’ given for these violations of Mr. Suri’s right to due process is another violation of the Constitution: a blatant attack on the First Amendment.” He further expressed concern over what he described as President Trump’s assault on freedom of speech affecting Mr. Suri and his family.

In another tweet from the same day, Rep. Beyer criticized the administration’s actions by stating that “In both cases, the administration has punished speech with frightening, extreme measures that, if it happened in another country, most of us would not hesitate to call ‘authoritarianism.’” He emphasized that such measures should be recognized as authoritarianism.

Furthermore, Rep. Beyer urged judicial intervention by saying “The courts must consider Mr. Suri’s case with all possible speed, given the administration’s track record of attempting to deny constitutional rights in ways that are difficult to undo before judicial remedies can be provided.” He called for an end to what he described as an assault by the administration.
