Rep. Don Beyer, who has represented Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2015, posted a series of statements on his social media accounts criticizing recent actions by government officials and agencies.

On March 18, 2026, Beyer addressed the status of a commemorative plaque for those who defended the Capitol during the January 6th attack. He stated, “The plaque honoring the brave men and women who defended the Capitol on January 6th was, by law, supposed to be hung up for public display by March 2023. It’s March 2026 and the plaque is tucked away in a hallway, still hidden from the public. It’s illegal and disrespectful.”

Later that day, Beyer criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to foreign policy regarding Iran. On March 18, he wrote, “Donald Trump chose to pursue an illegal war against Iran without planning for the consequences, and to make matters worse – eliminated the expertise needed to manage the fallout.”

Continuing his criticism into March 19, Beyer commented on federal spending priorities under Trump’s administration: “Donald Trump and Republicans enacted the largest cuts in history to Medicaid and SNAP because the nation simply ‘couldn’t afford’ them. Now, the Trump Administration is seeking $200 billion to pursue their illegal, poorly planned war of choice against Iran. Absolutely not.”

Beyer has been active in Congress since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, he holds a BA from Williams College.
