Rep. Don Beyer, U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of tweets on March 16 and 17, 2026, criticizing the Trump Administration’s foreign policy decisions and their consequences in the Middle East.

On March 16, Beyer addressed recent developments in the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and Lebanon. He wrote: “The disastrous chain of reckless escalations beginning with the US-Israeli war of choice against Iran, followed by Hezbollah’s tragic decision to join the war looks to be culminating in another Israeli ground invasion in Lebanon. Lebanese civilians are paying the ultimate price”.

Later that day, he continued his criticism of the Trump Administration’s approach to international alliances and military strategy. Beyer stated: “The Trump White House has continuously insulted and alienated our allies, including with indiscriminate tariffs. They failed to build a credible coalition that would support their reckless war of choice in Iran and clearly didn’t plan for the most predictable Iranian response in”.

On March 17, Beyer commented on what he described as the Trump Administration’s disregard for public opinion: “Here it is, straight from the horse’s mouth: the American public is the last of the Trump Administration’s concerns.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, Beyer graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
