Rep. Don Beyer, who has represented Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2015, posted a series of critical statements on February 5, 2026, regarding recent actions and policies associated with the Trump Administration.

In his first post at 18:13 UTC, Beyer addressed foreign aid cuts, writing, “The Trump Administration’s reckless foreign aid cuts are already undoing decades of progress, leading to surges in HIV/AIDS, malaria and hunger across the developing world. Studies project this massive aid loss could lead to 9.4 million deaths by 2030.”

Later that evening at 20:21 UTC, Beyer commented on changes affecting federal employment: “This is yet another hostile attack in the Trump Administration’s relentless war against our civil service. They want to make it easier to fire qualified public servants so they can replace them with MAGA sycophants who serve Donald Trump above the law and the American people.”

At 23:32 UTC on the same day, Beyer criticized former President Trump over reported demands related to infrastructure funding: “‘I won’t spend money on transportation infrastructure to make Americans’ lives better unless you name buildings after me’ is a level of narcissism and corruption rarely seen, and it makes Trump sound like a big baby.”

Beyer has served as a member of Congress for over a decade after replacing Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and resides in Alexandria. Beyer holds a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College.
