Rep. Don Beyer, who has represented Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2015, posted a series of tweets on September 9, 2025, criticizing recent statements from Trump administration officials regarding the latest jobs report.

In his first tweet, Beyer stated: “Friday we got another bad jobs report that shows a clear slowdown. Trump’s people responded by saying the jobs report was good, that it was bad but would get better with revisions, and that it was bad because people who run the data analysis were biased against them. 1/” (September 9, 2025).

He continued in a follow-up post: “These things cannot all be true, and in fact none of them are. Worse, the Secretary of Labor claimed that 7.4 million unemployed Americans and 6.4 million Americans out of the labor force who want a job are ‘statistically nonexistent.'” (September 9, 2025).

In his third tweet on the matter, Beyer referenced statements from White House officials about manufacturing sector performance: “The White House Press Secretary put out glowing commentary about how good Trump has been for the manufacturing sector, which lost 12,000 jobs last month and 78,000 jobs this year.” (September 9, 2025).

Beyer is currently serving as a U.S. Representative for Virginia’s 8th District after succeeding Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and now residing in Alexandria at age 72, Beyer graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.

The context for Beyer’s comments is ongoing debate over U.S. employment figures and economic performance under former President Donald Trump’s administration.
