Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, published a series of tweets on October 16, 2025, criticizing recent actions and policies related to U.S. military operations, press access at the Pentagon, and rural healthcare.

In a tweet posted at 19:28 UTC, Beyer commented on the U.S. administration’s reported actions in Venezuela: “From ordering the killing of people on boats without any legal process, to special operations and threats of boots on the ground, Trump’s ‘special military operation’ in Venezuela looks increasingly focused on regime change. This is a terrible idea and completely unnecessary.”

Later the same day at 20:38 UTC, Beyer addressed concerns about press freedom at the Pentagon, writing: “Hegseth’s attempts to block press access at the Pentagon won’t work, but they are intended to prevent the American people from learning what is happening within the U.S. military — which is especially concerning in light of this reporting. He is a disaster and should resign.”

At 22:21 UTC, Beyer turned his attention to rural healthcare and legislative impacts, quoting a report about Churchville in Augusta County: ‘”The seismic change in Churchville is already felt by longtime residents who cannot remember the small community in western Augusta County without a doctor… Churchville is losing part of its identity.” This is what Trump & Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill is doing to rural health:’

Don Beyer, born in Trieste in 1950 and a resident of Alexandria, has been active in Congress since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College (Fact 1, Fact 2, Fact 3, Fact 4). His recent statements reflect ongoing debates over U.S. foreign policy and domestic healthcare policy under the current administration.
