Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has used his social media platform to criticize former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers regarding their handling of government shutdowns and economic issues.

On November 6, 2025, Beyer wrote on his X account: “Donald Trump and Republicans have repeatedly made life harder for the American people during this shutdown. They should try helping them instead, and work with Democrats to lower health care costs for millions of Americans. That’s what the American people are asking for.”

Later that same day, he posted a photo credit: “Photo Credit: Erin Schaff/The New York Times”.

The following morning, on November 7, 2025, Beyer continued his criticism of Trump’s priorities by stating: “‘I don’t want to hear about the affordability.’ Trump is globe-trotting, holding lavish parties, focusing on a ballroom while health care and electricity costs skyrocket and his tariffs drive up grocery prices. ‘I don’t want to hear about the affordability.’ He does not care.”

Don Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College in 1972. Beyer succeeded Jim Moran as representative for Virginia’s 8th District.
