Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of tweets on April 2, 2026, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s recent appointments and economic policies.

Later that evening at 20:22 UTC, Beyer addressed the impact of tariffs introduced under Trump’s administration: “A year later, Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs have delivered exactly what many of us warned it would: Americans are paying more for everyday goods, businesses are failing, and we’re facing a frozen job market. He continued his critique in another post at 20:29 UTC by stating: “Trump also assured us that the tariffs would lead to an economic boom. Unsurprisingly, this did not happen either.
