Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, used his social media platform on September 9, 2025, to criticize former President Donald Trump’s economic policies and address federal employees during what he described as a period of hardship.

In a post at 20:13 UTC, Beyer referenced former President Trump’s online activity, stating, “The most out-of-touch response of all came from Trump himself, who posted a meme again declaring it ‘The Golden Age’ when even Fox was acknowledging the jobs news was terrible”.

Shortly after, at 20:14 UTC, Beyer criticized the administration’s tariff policy and its impact on Americans: “No amount of lies or window dressing will change the fact that Trump’s tariffs are grinding our economy into the ground. The impacts on American working families will only get worse as long as this administration and Republicans in Congress keep us on this disastrous course.”

Later that evening at 21:35 UTC, Beyer addressed federal workers directly amid ongoing challenges: “I write amid a time of great hardship for federal employees and contractors to say thank you for your patriotism and your service, and to offer what hope I can during this abysmal period in our country’s modern history. A new open letter: https://t.co/hVoeIh32at https://t.co/CqleElFs7m”

Beyer has been an active member of Congress since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, Beyer holds a BA from Williams College. His recent posts come at a time when debates over tariffs and economic policy have intensified nationally.
