Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, recently posted a series of statements on his social media account criticizing former President Donald Trump’s economic policies and highlighting legislative efforts aimed at tax reform.
On March 13, 2026, Beyer addressed the issue of housing affordability in the United States, writing, “I’ll tell you who gives a [bleep] about housing – the millions of Americans who find it increasingly difficult to afford rent, let alone buy a home. Donald Trump has failed to deliver on his promise to lower prices. And it’s clear he simply doesn’t care.”
Later that day, Beyer commented on income inequality and announced collaboration with Senator Chris Van Hollen on new tax legislation: “Under President Trump, working Americans are struggling while the wealthiest among us are thriving but it doesn’t have to be this way. I’m working with @ChrisVanHollen on the Working Americans’ Tax Cut Act to ensure the wealthiest among us pay their fair share.” The proposed bill aims to adjust the tax code so higher-income individuals contribute more relative to their earnings.
In another post dated March 13, 2026, Beyer cited findings from a Joint Economic Committee Democrats (JECDems) report regarding tariffs: “A new @JECDems report finds that Donald Trump’s effort to implement new tariffs after SCOTUS struck down IEEPA tariffs last month would cost the average American household $2,512 in 2026. That’s a HUGE 44% jump from the added $1,745 in tariff costs just last year.” The report suggests significant increases in consumer costs as a result of recent tariff policy changes.
Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. Beyer is an alumnus of Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts degree earned in 1972.
