Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on March 17 and 18, 2026, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s foreign and domestic policies and discussing recent legislative actions.
On March 17, Beyer addressed the consequences of Trump’s actions regarding Iran: “Donald Trump tore up the Iran nuclear deal, failed to negotiate another agreement, then attacked Iran and claimed to have ‘obliterated’ their weapons program. Clearly that wasn’t true. Now, his illegal war in Iran has spiraled out of control into a region-wide conflict and is” (March 17, 2026).
Later that day, Beyer commented on the White House’s approach to law enforcement: “It should tell you what you need to know that this White House views agreeing to ‘adhere to the law’ as a concession. We need no more masked agents. No more occupation. No more assaults on Americans peacefully exercising their rights. No more warrantless entries. No more mass” (March 17, 2026).
On March 18, Beyer announced his support for a discharge petition related to Department of Homeland Security funding: “I signed a discharge petition to force a vote to fund the law-abiding parts of DHS to ensure workers get paid and our airports keep running. Our public servants shouldn’t suffer because Trump and Republicans refuse to commit to rein in the lawlessness in ICE and CBP.” (March 18, 2026).
Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in Congress in 2015 and currently resides in Alexandria. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
