Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on November 7, 2025, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s actions regarding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during a government shutdown.

In his first tweet at 14:34 UTC, Beyer stated, “We always said the law required Trump to keep SNAP going using the funding Congress provided. He just didn’t want to. Now he’s filing an *appeal* to try to deny food to 42 million Americans, using the shutdown as a pretext. As he holds lavish parties with his wealthy friends.”

Later that day at 16:16 UTC, Beyer posted another message quoting what appears to be a remark from Trump or one of his associates: ‘”I don’t want to hear about the affordability”‘. He followed up with a third tweet at 16:16 UTC providing additional context by linking to a related story: “Story linked here: https://t.co/CtQ6bVB71A”.

Don Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran and is currently serving in Congress. Born in Trieste in 1950 and residing in Alexandria, Beyer graduated from Williams College in 1972 with a BA.
