Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several national issues on his social media account on April 17, 2026.

In a post from April 17, Beyer cited findings from a new Joint Economic Committee Democrats (JECDems) report and criticized former President Donald Trump’s trade policies: “A new @JECDems report found Donald Trump is making America’s housing crisis worse. His stupid tariffs have driven up the costs of building and furnishing a home by up to $17,000 per home! Fewer homes, higher prices, Trump’s America keeps getting more expensive.”

Later that day, Beyer commented on the state of local journalism and its impact on broader news coverage: “Before becoming national news, many important stories start as local investigations. The loss of this vital journalism doesn’t just harm the communities they serve but it deprives the wider world of stories that might otherwise never be told.” The post included a link to further information.

On the same day, Beyer also addressed foreign policy concerns regarding military conflict in Iran: “Despite Republicans’ refusal to support a War Powers Resolution to end this war, I’m encouraged that the American people’s rejection of this war seems to have spurred President Trump to pursue a durable resolution. Beyer has served in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran and currently resides in Alexandria. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
