Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to comment on several national political issues, including U.S. foreign policy and domestic political controversies.

On October 17, 2025, Beyer expressed concern about potential military action in South America, writing, “It’s beginning to look like President Donald Trump wants to start a war with Venezuela. Americans don’t support a war in pursuit of regime change in Venezuela, and neither do I.”

Later that same day, Beyer addressed legal developments involving former Congressman George Santos and criticized former President Donald Trump’s response. In his post from October 17, he stated: “George Santos pleaded guilty to identity theft and wire fraud, a small part of his lying and stealing that really hurt people. Trump says it plainly: crimes don’t count if you ‘vote Republican.’ Just like his pardons of those who violently attacked police. Naked corruption.”

The following day, on October 18, Beyer turned his attention to health care policy and its impact on small businesses in Virginia. He wrote: “Donald Trump and Republicans refuse to extend the tax credits that make health insurance more affordable for our small business owners. This will devastate more than 80,000 small business owners and workers in Virginia.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015 and currently resides in Alexandria. Born in Trieste in 1950, he is an alumnus of Williams College with a BA earned in 1972.
