Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform over the weekend to criticize former President Donald Trump and his associates, focusing on concerns about democracy, government operations, and economic policy.

On October 18, 2025, Beyer posted: “Donald Trump poses a clear threat to our democracy, and today people in our community and across the country came together to stand up to authoritarianism and corruption. Americans and Alexandrians say No Kings!”

The following day, October 19, 2025, Beyer addressed recent statements by Trump and Russ Vought regarding federal employment during a potential government shutdown: “Donald Trump and Russ Vought are lying when they say their mass layoffs are somehow required during a government shutdown. In fact, they’re illegal. The chaos they are causing is intentional and hurts American families, our economy, and the services we all depend on.”

Later that day, Beyer commented on the impact of tariffs under the Trump administration: “The truth about Trump’s tariffs: ‘While administration officials have insisted that exporters will be forced to bear the greater share of the levies… just one-third will be borne by companies, with the rest falling on the shoulders of consumers, under conservative estimates.'”

Beyer has served in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran and currently resides in Alexandria. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and graduated from Williams College in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
