Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic and disaster response policies in a series of posts on August 15, 2025.

In his first post at 14:40 UTC, Beyer wrote, “A big drop in consumer sentiment is the latest in a run of bad economic news, all of it driven by Trump’s crazy tariffs. Trump keeps calling this a ‘golden age,’ but it doesn’t feel that way to most Americans. He’s wildly out of touch.”

Later that day at 16:42 UTC, Beyer addressed disaster preparedness and federal aid, stating, “When President Trump fires disaster experts and scientists, dismantles disaster preparedness programs, and denies or delays aid, it puts American lives at risk. I led more than 80 of my colleagues in demanding that he reinstate disaster response staff and programs:”

In another post at the same time, Beyer highlighted recent extreme weather events across several states: “Natural disasters are becoming more frequent, more severe, and more costly. Recent severe weather events have claimed lives and devastated communities in New Mexico, Texas, North Carolina, and here in Northern Virginia:”

Beyer has served as the U.S. Representative for Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, he graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
