Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, used his social media platform on July 19 and 20, 2025, to criticize state leaders and former President Donald Trump over recent political developments.

On July 19, Beyer posted: “Unfortunately, key state leaders are more committed to backing their fellow Republicans like Trump than they are to fighting for Virginians. Governor Youngkin supports these awful cuts, while Lt. Gov. Earle-Sears mocked those who lost their jobs:

.

In a subsequent post the same day, he added: “Youngkin and Earle-Sears are presiding over rising unemployment, but rather than stand up and fight for Virginians, they’re cheering Trump on for political reasons. It’s hard to imagine a worse indictment of their leadership.

Virginians deserve better.

On July 20, Beyer turned his attention to Donald Trump with the statement: “Donald Trump has given orders to incinerate 500 metric tons of food – enough to feed about 1.5 million children for a week. This kind of moral depravity is unconscionable.

.

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Jim Moran in 2015 and resides in Alexandria. Born in Trieste in 1950 and a graduate of Williams College with a BA earned in 1972, Beyer continues to be an active voice on issues affecting his constituents.
