Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed recent legislative actions and economic concerns in a series of tweets posted on December 17, 2025.

In one tweet from that day, Beyer criticized Republican-led health care legislation: “Earlier this year Republicans passed a bill that stripped health care from millions of Americans. That was a monstrous bill; today they are trying to pass a cowardly bill. I spoke against their flimsy ‘health care’ bill that fails to prevent skyrocketing health costs.” (December 17, 2025).

Later the same day, Beyer shared findings from the Joint Economic Committee Democrats (@JECDems) regarding tariffs under President Trump’s second term: “New Joint Economic Committee @JECDems analysis: ‘In just 10 months the average American family has already paid nearly $1,200 in tariff costs, with the costs climbing steadily since the beginning of President Trump’s second term.’ More: https://t.co/grCRgZaKiS https://t.co/sYYlK50U1L” (December 17, 2025).

He followed up with another tweet quoting the committee’s projections: “‘If monthly tariff costs remain as high as they were in November over the next 12 months, families will pay an average of $2,100 per year due to tariffs.'” (December 17, 2025).

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in Congress in 2015 and is currently serving at age 72. He was born in Trieste and resides in Alexandria. He graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
