Trump likes tariffs because he’s a bully, because he’s an authoritarian, because he doesn’t care who gets hurt. Our bills would stop this. Republicans are nowhere to be found.” His comments suggest a disapproval of both the tariff plan and the lack of Republican action to address it.
The following day, April 3, 2025, Beyer emphasized congressional responsibility regarding trade policies, saying, “We don’t have to let Trump’s tariffs wreck our economy—it’s a choice. That is a concise description of how Trump’s policies work in human terms.” Beyer points to regressive impacts of the tariff policies, suggesting a socioeconomic disparity in tax burdens.
