Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has recently addressed a range of national concerns through his social media posts.

On September 5, 2025, Beyer commented on the state of the labor market and criticized the Trump Administration’s economic policies, stating: “Nearly 2 million of those workers are long term unemployed. Another 6.4 million not in the labor force want a job, on top of the 7.4 million unemployed.

The Trump Admin is crushing the job market with dumb tariffs and now has the gall to tell these people they don’t even exist.”

Later that same day, Beyer highlighted his involvement in discussions aimed at improving aviation safety after a recent crash. He posted: “Today, I joined @MarkWarner to hear from air traffic controllers, pilots, the families of those lost in the January 29th crash, and others in aviation to discuss how we can best keep travelers safe.

Every time we board a plane, we must trust in the system built to protect us.”

On September 7, Beyer shared a personal milestone and legislative goal related to conservation: “I completed the Appalachian Trail, and I want to ensure that future generations can also hike this beloved fixture of the American outdoors.

Our legislation would help strengthen the trail and its partnerships so that it remains the crown jewel of hiking!”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in Congress in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria at age 72, he graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
