Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district, has been active on social media discussing various legislative and state matters. His recent tweets cover topics ranging from military spouse challenges to potential economic impacts of federal workforce reductions and air safety concerns.

On March 21, 2025, Rep. Beyer highlighted the challenges faced by military spouses due to frequent relocations. He announced his introduction of bipartisan legislation aimed at addressing employment hurdles for these individuals in collaboration with colleagues Mike Kelly, Judge Carter, and Jimmy Panetta. “My mom was a military spouse, so I know partners of active-duty servicemembers face particular challenges, including relocating their families long distances. I introduced bipartisan legislation with @MikeKellyPA @JudgeCarter @RepJimmyPanetta to address hurdles to employment”

Later that day, Beyer expressed concern over a proposed reduction in the federal workforce. He noted the significant economic impact this could have on Virginia, estimating a loss of 39,000 jobs and nearly $250 million in state tax revenue, potentially leading to a recession in the state. “A 10% reduction in the federal workforce could mean a loss of 39,000 jobs in Virginia… more than the total number of jobs the state had been expected to create over that time, carrying a loss of nearly $250 million in state tax revenue and probably creating a recession”

In another post on March 21st, Rep. Beyer addressed air safety following an air collision incident on January 29th. With the preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released, he urged Secretary Duffy and the Department of Transportation to implement further measures to enhance air safety in the region. “With the release of the preliminary NTSB report on the tragic January 29th air collision, we are urging Secretary Duffy and the Department of Transportation to take further steps to ensure air safety in the region:”
