Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congress member representing Virginia’s 8th District since 2015, recently addressed concerns on social media regarding the impact of Trump-era tariffs on local businesses. In a series of tweets dated April 11, 2025, Beyer highlighted both the current challenges and past significant events involving a prominent regional shopping center.

On April 11, 2025, Beyer posted a tweet asserting that “Trump tariffs are threatening a beloved local institution that he used last year for a splashy campaign appearance.” The message draws attention to economic policies affecting local enterprises.

Further elaborating, Beyer tweeted, “Eden Center in Falls Church a 40-year-old shopping center featuring ‘more than 120 local family-owned restaurants, shops, supermarkets, jewelry stores, and travel agents catering to the Asian American population.’ Their Vietnamese cuisine is legendary.” This message, also posted on April 11, underscores the cultural and economic significance of Eden Center to its community.

Additionally, Beyer recalled a political event in another tweet from the same date. He mentioned that “Last year, then-candidate Donald Trump made a surprise campaign visit to Eden Center, where he declared, ‘the Vietnamese community loves me.'” This anecdote highlights the Center’s role in the previous year’s political discourse.

Beyer, who has served since 2015, continues to engage with issues affecting his constituents. The Eden Center, with its Vietnamese cuisine and significant role in the Asian American community, represents both cultural heritage and commercial livelihood threatened by economic policies.
