Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has recently shared his views on social media regarding legislative developments and their potential impacts. On July 2, 2025, he expressed strong opposition to what he termed as the “Big Ugly Bill,” emphasizing that “House Democrats are united and standing together against the Big Ugly Bill.”

Later that day, Beyer posted another message suggesting a significant impact from the proposed legislation by stating “*At least* 17 million”, accompanied by a link presumably providing further details.

In a subsequent post on July 2, Beyer criticized former President Donald Trump’s proposed bill, labeling it as potentially catastrophic for American healthcare. He stated: “Donald Trump’s One Big Ugly Bill would be a disaster for American health care. People will get sicker, people will go into medical debt, and people will die.” Concluding his message with a firm stance against the bill, Beyer declared his intention to vote against it: “I will be voting NO.”

Don Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950 and is an alumnus of Williams College where he graduated with a BA in 1972. Currently residing in Alexandria at age 72, Beyer’s congressional career began after succeeding Jim Moran in Virginia’s 8th District.
