Rep. Don Beyer, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, shared his concerns over recent legislative developments through a series of tweets on July 3, 2025.

In one tweet, Beyer expressed concern about a bill that would make it easier to purchase certain firearms. He stated that “Our streets will be less safe, as the bill makes it easier to buy deadly weapons like gun silencers and short-barreled firearms which have been carefully regulated for nearly a century, making it easier for these dangerous weapons to end up on our streets”.

Another tweet from Beyer highlighted potential economic impacts due to national debt increases. He mentioned that “Our national debt will balloon, growing over $3 trillion more, according to CBO; with significant consequences for our nation’s economic health and stability, including raising borrowing costs for homebuyers and small businesses”.

In his final tweet of the day, Beyer criticized tax cuts benefiting wealthy individuals at the expense of healthcare funding. He wrote: “All this to finance tax cuts that give the vast majority of benefits to the rich. The wealthiest 1% will see $1 trillion, the same amount that they are cutting in health care for tens of millions of Americans. Your health care funding goes straight into billionaires’ pockets.”

Don Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950 and graduated from Williams College in 1972 with a BA. He currently resides in Alexandria.
