Rep. Don Beyer, U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, recently used his social media platform to share his positions on federal spending and reproductive rights.

On January 22, 2026, Beyer criticized the use of taxpayer funds by immigration enforcement agencies, stating, “ICE and CBP are spending taxpayer dollars to terrorize our cities. We absolutely cannot continue to fund this lawlessness.”

Later that day, Beyer announced his opposition to a congressional appropriations package, writing on January 22, 2026: “I just voted against the appropriations ‘minibus,’ including the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act. Here’s my statement explaining why: https://t.co/5MgS6bpcM0 https://t.co/YLOlop99M1”

On January 23, 2026, Beyer addressed reproductive rights in another post: “Roe v. Wade affirmed a woman’s right to bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom, but Republicans have since rolled that progress back and continue attacking women’s access to care. We must pass the Women’s Health Protection Act to codify Roe’s protections into federal law.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, he graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
