Rep. Don Beyer, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has recently shared a series of tweets addressing various political and economic issues. Born in Trieste in 1950, Beyer is a graduate of Williams College and resides in Alexandria.

On July 7, 2025, Rep. Beyer criticized Republicans for their delay in installing a plaque commissioned by Congress to honor officers who defended democracy on January 6th. He stated, “On January 6th, brave officers responded to defend our democracy. Congress commissioned a plaque to honor them, but Republicans are still ignoring the deadline to install it. They refuse to do the bare minimum to recognize this heroic sacrifice.” Beyer emphasized that “These officers deserve better.”

The following day, on July 8, Beyer posted an enigmatic tweet quoting the phrase “60% of the time it works every time”, without providing additional context or explanation.

Later on July 8, Beyer addressed trade policy concerns related to former President Donald Trump’s actions. He remarked that “Trump is wildly erratic, especially on trade,” highlighting that his trade wars have resulted in “the highest effective tariff rate in nearly a century.” Beyer warned that “The American people will pay the cost of these tariffs.”
