Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has been vocal on social media about recent political events and figures. On March 14, 2025, Beyer posted a series of tweets addressing topics ranging from historical political remarks to contemporary policy issues.

In one tweet from March 14, 2025, Beyer drew a parallel between recent comments by J.D. Vance and those made by John McCain in 2008. He stated, “If Vance’s phrase sounds familiar it’s because John McCain said almost the same words in 2008 hours before Lehman Brothers’ collapse triggered the Great Recession.” Beyer referenced Time Magazine’s list titled “The Most Unfortunate Political One-Liners” to highlight the comparison.

Later that day, on March 14, 2025, Beyer criticized Elon Musk’s actions through another tweet. He remarked that “Elon Musk hurts American students and American farmers in one blow.” The statement was delivered with an air of sarcasm as he commented on the “efficiency” of Musk’s actions.

Continuing his critique of high-profile figures, Beyer also addressed former President Donald Trump and his appointees on March 14, 2025. In this tweet, he claimed that “Trump is subverting the vetting process because he hired a bunch of people who wouldn’t pass it, including Elon Musk.” He mentioned collaborating with Rep. Ted Lieu to introduce the Security Clearance Review Act aimed at reforming the vetting process for presidential appointees.
