Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, shared a series of tweets on May 11, 2025, addressing concerns related to tariffs, national park funding, and cuts to veterans’ services.

In a tweet posted at 17:00 UTC, Rep. Beyer highlighted the testimony of Sarah Wells, a small business owner from Northern Virginia. He quoted her saying “The tariffs aren’t a future threat. They’re hurting business like mine today.” This statement was made in reference to the impact of Trump’s tariffs on small businesses.

Later that day at 19:40 UTC, Rep. Beyer expressed concern over potential funding cuts for national parks which he believes would significantly harm conservation efforts and public safety. He stated that such actions are “the opposite of efficiency” and warned they would be costly to Americans.

At 21:30 UTC on the same day, Rep. Beyer criticized the Trump Administration’s reductions in Veterans Affairs (VA) resources which have led to halted cancer trials and reduced research staff. He described these measures as “a gross betrayal of those who served.”

Don Beyer has been representing Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and now residing in Alexandria, he is an alumnus of Williams College where he graduated with a BA in 1972.
