The City of Alexandria will hold a Special Election on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Polls are scheduled to be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The election includes contests for State Senate District 39, which covers the entire city, and House of Delegates District 5, which covers part of the city.

All registered voters in Virginia can vote early. The deadline for in-person early voting is Saturday, February 7 at 5 p.m., with hours available at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections located at 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100.

On Election Day, voters must go to their assigned polling place between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Voters can confirm their location and registration status by visiting vote.elections.virginia.gov or by calling the Office of Voter Registration & Elections at 703.746.4050. A current precinct map is also available through the city’s website.

For this election, there is a change in polling places: “The City Hall Precinct will vote at Lyles Crouch School (530 S. Saint Asaph Street.) Follow the signs for Old Town South.”

Voters are encouraged to review sample ballots ahead of time to prepare for choices regarding State Senate District 39 and House of Delegates District 5 if applicable to their area.

Identification is required before voting; acceptable forms include a Virginia driver’s license, voter confirmation documents, U.S. passport, employee photo ID or student ID as outlined by the Virginia Department of Elections website. If a voter does not have an acceptable ID on hand, they may sign an ID Confirmation Statement or use a provisional ballot.

Those planning to vote late in the day must be in line by 7 p.m.

Voters who missed the regular registration deadline on February 3 may use same day registration at their correct polling location and locality but will cast provisional ballots.

“The Office of Voter Registration & Elections is committed to ensuring that every registered voter can vote,” according to officials.

Unofficial results will be posted after polls close on Election Day via the Virginia Department of Elections website; official results will be certified following canvassing by state and local Electoral Boards.

Residents needing more information or reasonable disability accommodation can contact voters@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.4050 or Virginia Relay 711.

Alexandria operates as an independent city providing services within its boundaries and uses a council-manager government system where City Council selects a manager for operations (https://www.alexandriava.gov). The city also incorporates racial and social equity into policies and decisions (https://www.alexandriava.gov) and maintains historic sites such as museums documenting African American heritage (https://www.alexandriava.gov).
