Stafford County announces holiday closings for government offices and services

Stafford County government offices, departments, facilities, and all courts will be closed from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, through Friday, December 26, for the Christmas holiday. The county government will also close on Thursday, January 1, 2026, in observance of New Year’s Day.

Both locations of the R-Board/Regional Landfill—Eskimo Hill and Belman Road—will close at noon on Wednesday, December 24. They will remain closed all day on Thursday, December 25, and reopen on December 26. Both landfill sites will also be closed on Thursday, January 1.

The following offices and facilities will continue to operate during the holiday period:

All outdoor parks in Stafford County will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Stafford County Public Schools District enrolled approximately 31,700 students during the 2023-24 school year according to data from the Virginia Department of Education. This marked a slight increase of about 1.7% compared to the previous year’s enrollment numbers. More information can be found at https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home.

Brooke Point High School reported the highest student enrollment among Stafford County’s schools with a total of 2,242 students for the same academic year. Details are available at https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home.

White students made up the largest ethnic group in Stafford County schools during this period with about 12,332 students or roughly 38.9% of total enrollment; Hispanic students were next with around 7,780 students or about one quarter of those enrolled. Rising Star Early Childhood Education Center at Melchers had the largest number of pre-kindergarten students in Stafford County for the school year with an enrollment of nearly three hundred children—more than half of all pre-kindergarten students in the district as detailed by state education records at https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home.
