Stafford County government offices and courts to close for Columbus Day

Stafford County government offices, departments, facilities, and all courts will be closed on Monday, October 13, 2025, in observance of the Columbus Day holiday. However, both locations of the R-Board/Regional Landfill—Eskimo Hill and Belman Road—will remain open to the public on that day.

Essential services such as Fire and Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office will continue operations. For non-emergency information, residents can contact Fire and Rescue at (540) 658-7200 or the Sheriff’s Office at (540) 658-4400. In emergencies, individuals should call 911. The Magistrate’s office will also be available at (540) 659-2968.

All outdoor parks in Stafford County will stay open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the holiday.

Stafford County Public Schools District enrolled approximately 31,700 students during the 2023-24 school year according to data from the Virginia Department of Education (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Brooke Point High School reported the highest enrollment among local schools with 2,242 students for that academic year (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). White students made up about 38.9% of total enrollment while Hispanic students accounted for roughly a quarter of all students (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). The district saw a modest increase in overall student numbers compared to the previous year (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home), and Rising Star Early Childhood Education Center at Melchers led pre-kindergarten enrollment with more than half of all pre-K students in Stafford County attending there (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).

Stafford County to host Memorial Day ceremony with Tuskegee Airmen history exhibit

Stafford County’s Memorial Day ceremony on May 22 will feature a traveling exhibit highlighting WWII heroes including Tuskegee Airmen and WASPs at Stafford Regional Airport. The event includes educational displays, films, and appearances by key speakers Chris Allen and Chairman Deuntay Diggs.
