Join us at The Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum, June 24, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for a Health and Wellness Fair and learn about wellness tools and resources available in the community. The fair coincides with the museum’s current special exhibition “Alexandria Hospital: Women Mobilize the Community.”

This free, family-friendly event will feature over 20 participants offering health screenings, information about local health and wellness resources, and entertainment. No reservation is required.

At 11 a.m. kids ages 2+ can join Miss Lisa from the Alexandria Library's Barrett Branch for Yoga Story Time. From 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., meet magician extraordinaire Lorenzo the Great, who will perform magic that is fun for all ages.

Outside, in the museum parking lot, the Kaiser Permanente Mobile Health Vehicle will offer blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and body mass index (BMI) health screenings to help you make sure your health is on track. The Mobile Health Vehicle is for ages 18 and above. Also outdoors, participants can discover ways to get moving. Presenters will include Strictly Ebikes, a local bike shop that specializes exclusively in electric bike sales and service.

Inside the museum, Alexandria businesses, non-profits, and city agencies will highlight opportunities ranging from yoga and physical therapy to fitness and health screenings.

The fair will also feature a “Movement Break” corner sponsored by emPOWER kids Joyful Movement Center. Kids can enjoy a movement break in their space with portable gymnastics equipment.

Also on hand will be the Inova Alexandria Hospital Saville Cancer Center. Saville Cancer Center providers assess individual cancer risk, provide detailed plans for age-appropriate cancer screening, and offer support in the form of wellness groups, networking, education and prevention programs.

Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington will provide glaucoma screenings, and Physical Therapy Zone will provide free posture evaluations and balance testing. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria will be on hand with an adoptable dog for people to meet.

Together We Bake, an empowerment-focused workforce training program for women facing barriers to employment, will be on hand selling their locally-made healthy snacks, including cinnamon-pecan granola and trail mix.

YMCA Alexandria will provide information about all programs that they offer and will provide body health assessments and blood pressure monitoring to help make suggestions for exercise programs.

“Alexandria Hospital: Women Mobilize the Community” marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Alexandria Infirmary – today’s Inova Alexandria Hospital. Women established and sustained the hospital by fostering community support, making it one of Alexandria’s most community-based enterprises. The exhibit was supported by Inova Alexandria Hospital, The Twig, and many individual donors.

The Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum is located at 201 South Washington Street in Old Town, Alexandria. The museum is open Thursdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sundays 1-5 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children 6-17 years of age, and is free for residents of Alexandria.
