The Bipartisan Alexandria Electoral Board unanimously voted to reappoint Angie Maniglia-Turner as the General Registrar and Director of Elections for the City of Alexandria. During the June 21 meeting of the Electoral Board, Greg Park, Clerk of the Circuit Court swore Maniglia-Turner in for a four-year term as General Registrar, which begins on July 1.

“The unanimous vote to reappoint Ms. Maniglia-Turner reflects the bipartisan confidence the Board has in her management of the City of Alexandria Office of Voter Registration and Elections,” said Electoral Board Secretary Bruce Brown. “Ms. Maniglia-Turner is a creative and seasoned Election Administrator dedicated to overseeing the Electoral mandate to conduct free and fair elections in the City.”

General Registrar Maniglia-Turner has been a City election official for more than 15 years. Prior to being appointed as General Registrar in July of 2020, she served as Elections Manager, Deputy Registrar, and Assistant Elections Manager. In her time with the Alexandria Electoral Board, she has helped oversee more than 35 elections, including four presidential elections, the implementation of the Same-Day Registration process, and led the City’s first Risk Limiting Audit.

General Registrar Maniglia-Turner holds a bachelor’s degree in government and international politics from George Mason University and a graduate certificate in local government management from Virginia Tech. She has earned the Certified Election/Registration Administrator (CERA) accreditation from the Election Center.

The position of General Registrar is established by the Constitution of Virginia for each city and county. Each registrar is appointed by a local electoral board, which in turn is appointed by the judges of the circuit court. The registrar’s responsibilities include overseeing local voter registration services, maintaining voter registration records, certifying candidates for local office, and administering all elections within the City of Alexandria.
