Coastal Flood and High Wind Warning in Effect for Alexandria

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning and a high wind warning for the City of Alexandria. The coastal flood warning will be in effect until Wednesday, January 10 at 10 a.m., while the high wind warning will be in effect until January 10 at 1 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service, residents can expect widespread rainfall and strong winds with gusts up to 55 mph this evening. Tidal flooding along the Potomac River is also expected, reaching approximately 5 feet by 6 a.m. Wednesday. The areas most likely to be affected by coastal flooding are the intersection of King St. and Union St., as well as lower portions of King St., Prince St., and Strand St.

In response to the warnings, the City of Alexandria is urging residents, businesses, and visitors to stay informed and take appropriate actions to keep themselves safe. The City is closely monitoring the conditions and has deployed public works teams to prepare for potential issues such as downed traffic signals and debris removal.
