Alexandria Mentoring Partnership (AMP) is hosting a series of events throughout January in celebration of Alexandria Mentoring Month. These events aim to honor and showcase the impact of mentoring in the community. The objective is to foster mentoring relationships that empower individuals and bring about positive, enduring change.
One of the upcoming events is the MLK Day of Service: Empower Through Mentoring, which will be held on Monday, January 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event will take place at the George Washington Masonic Memorial from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. It is an opportunity to engage in activities that promote unity, equality, and community building. As stated by AMP, "Together, we can make a difference by supporting and uplifting the next generation."
Another event is the Youth Mental Health First Aid: Empowering Communities, which will be held on Thursday, January 18. The event will take place at 4850 Mark Center Drive, Conference Room 10408, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This full-day training aims to equip caring adults with the skills to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health challenges in youth. The goal is to create a community that prioritizes the mental well-being of young minds.
On the same day, there will be a Connect | Focus | Grow Info Session. This event will take place virtually from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Connect | Focus | Grow curriculum, presented by Mentor Maryland | DC, focuses on equipping supervisors and mentors with a mentoring mindset while guiding youth on how to leverage their mentoring opportunities. This session is open to established and emerging workforce development programs.
