City of Alexandria offices and facilities will return to normal operating hours on Wednesday, January 17, following a delayed opening on Tuesday due to inclement weather. The decision to delay the opening was made in order to prioritize community safety amidst the closures and delays experienced across the region.
According to the Department of Transportation & Environmental Services, primary, secondary, intermediate, and residential roads have been treated to ensure safe passage for residents. The department will continue to monitor and address any icy roads resulting from refreezing.
In light of the cold weather, the Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS) Winter Shelter at 2355-A Mill Road will remain open 24 hours a day until Monday, January 22 at 7 a.m. This provides individuals and families with a warming center during this period. The City of Alexandria advises residents to stay informed about weather updates and other important information by subscribing to alexandriava.gov/eNews. By doing so, residents can receive timely updates directly from the City.
