Early voting for the March 5 Dual Presidential Primary Elections in the City of Alexandria will begin on January 19, according to an announcement made on January 17, 2024. The upcoming elections will feature a contest for either the Democratic or Republican nominee for President of the United States.

In Dual Primary Elections, qualified voters have the option to vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary, but not both. Voters must indicate their choice to the Pollbook officer and cannot be challenged on their decision.

All registered voters in Virginia are eligible to vote either by mail or in person. The following information outlines important deadlines, voting hours, and locations.

For those opting to vote in person, the deadline for early voting is Saturday, March 2, at 5 p.m. Early voting will take place at the Office of Voter Registration & Elections located at 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100. The office will open for early voting on Friday, January 19, 2024, and will be open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, it will be closed on Monday, February 19, 2024. Additional and extended hours will be available on specific dates leading up to the deadline.

Voting by mail is also an option. Applications to request a mail-in ballot must be received in the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 23. There are several ways to access an application, including submitting it online through the vote.elections.virginia.gov website, downloading the application from the City's Elections webpage, or requesting that an application be mailed to you by calling Voter Registration & Elections at 703.746.4050. Completed mail-in ballots must either be returned to the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, or postmarked by March 5 and received in the office by noon on Friday, March 8.

It is important to note that an application is not required for those who choose to vote in person. However, applications should not be submitted before voting in person.

To ensure convenient access for voters, ballot drop boxes will be available at all polling places on March 5, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Additionally, a secure outdoor drop box, under video surveillance, will be available in front of the Office of Voter Registration & Elections 24 hours a day until March 5 at 7 p.m.

For individuals who have not yet registered to vote, the deadline for the normal registration period for the March 5 Dual Presidential Primary Election is February 12. The Same Day Registration period will begin on February 13 and will run through Primary Election Day, March 5, 2024. Registration can be done online at vote.elections.virginia.gov.
