The City of Alexandria is set to host an educational event aimed at raising awareness about local water resources through the initiative "Imagine a Day Without Water." This outreach event will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 3 to 5 pm at King Street Waterfront Park.
Residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about One Water Alexandria, a collaborative effort between Virginia American Water, AlexRenew, and the City of Alexandria. These three entities form the partnership that provides and treats water for the city's residents.
"Imagine a Day Without Water" is recognized as a National Day of Action. It aims to emphasize the essential nature of water and the need for ongoing investment in this critical resource.
One Water Alexandria was established in 2018 as a joint initiative among Virginia American Water, which supplies drinking water; the City of Alexandria, responsible for sanitary and storm sewer infrastructure; and AlexRenew, which manages water resource recovery facilities. Additionally, RiverRenew is an AlexRenew-led program supported by the city to address combined sewer system overflows in Old Town.
