The City of Alexandria will host its annual “Tons of Trucks” event on Saturday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chinquapin Park, located at 3210 King St. The event is organized by the Department of Recreation, Parks, & Cultural Activities (RPCA) and is free for all attendees. It will take place regardless of weather conditions.
A sensory-friendly hour is scheduled for the first hour of the event, from 10 to 11 a.m., to accommodate visitors who may benefit from a quieter environment.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore various city vehicles such as police cars, snow plows, fire trucks, and DASH buses. Staff members responsible for operating and maintaining these vehicles will be present to answer questions and discuss their work with community members. Additional activities include an art project led by the City’s Mobile Art Lab, music, giveaways, photo opportunities, family activities, and food truck vendors.
“I am overjoyed to attend and participate in this year’s Tons of Trucks! As one of the city’s premier events, we take great pride in hosting our community and creating an experience that can be enjoyed by every member of the family every year,” said Hashim T. Taylor, Director of RPCA.
Visitors are encouraged to use free DASH Bus transportation or Capital Bikeshare services when traveling to the event. More information about alternative transit options can be found on GO Alex’s Trip Planning Page.
Parking for those driving is available at Alexandria City High School (3330 King St.), First Baptist Church (2932 King St.), and Oakland Baptist Church (3408 King St.).
