The facility had 307 total beds, surpassing the county average by 141 beds as of the first quarter. It housed an average of 285.7 residents each day throughout the period.
The CMS awarded Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center an overall rating of 5 out of 5, exceeding the Virginia nursing home average rating of 3.
Alexandria Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center was the second-largest nursing home during the quarter, offering 111 beds, followed by Goodwin House Alexandria with 80 beds available in third place.
Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center also recorded no fines or penalties in the initial quarter of 2026.
Alexandria City County, Virginia, was home to two for-profit nursing homes during this period.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that America’s older population continues to rise as the population of younger groups shrinks. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans 65 and older grew in number by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. The nation’s older adult population has expanded sharply in the past 100 years, increasing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 study found that nearly half of Americans in this age group, around 28 million, may need long-term services and support, with projections showing over one-third might eventually require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
