Marymount University Athletic Department issued the following announcement on March 7

The Marymount University softball team dropped a pair of contests on Monday afternoon to North Carolina Wesleyan College and King's College (Pa.).

Game One

The Saints faced off against N.C. Wesleyan in their first tilt of the day. The 2021 USA South Conference runner-up proved to be too much to handle, however, as MU fell, 14-3.

Six different batters registered a hit for the Saints, but they struggled for a consistent approach against the Battling Bishops' arms. Kaylynn Johnson led the way with a 1-for-3 showing at the plate and a team-best two RBI. Johnson did her damage with a double in the third inning that plated Shanyn Burch and Elizabeth Corcoran.

Morgan Hunt supplied the other RBI for the Blue and White with a single in the second frame. On the mound, Burch tossed the full seven innings and registered 11 strikeouts.

Game Two

MU battled King's in its second contest on Monday, but the Saints were unable to keep pace with the consistent offense of the Monarchs in a 9-5 decision.

The Saints started the game off strong in the first inning. Samantha Cinottie and Corcoran started things off with a triple and a walk, respectively. A pair of miscues from the Monarchs allowed the Blue and White to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

King's responded in the bottom of the frame with four runs to retake the lead. The Monarchs struck again in the second frame to make it 6-3, but the Saints battled back in the third inning. Corcoran laced a one-out double into left-center and then moved to third on a single from Shanyn Burch. A throwing error from the Monarchs brought home Corcoran, while Sara Emig doubled to right-center to plate Burch and make it 6-5.

MU couldn't build on its momentum, however, as the Monarchs tacked on three more runs to take the contest.

Morgan Hunt got the start in the pitcher's circle and tallied one strikeout in six innings of work.

Marymount closes out its time in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Tuesday, March 8, with a pair of games against Norwich University and Cairn University.
